Hello everyone,
Have any of you ever been asked to take a writing test or other skills test as part of an interview? How have you coordinated the accessibility of the exam, along with the disclosure of your disability in this particular situation?
In general, I think that applicants should not disclose their disability until the interview. But what happens when you've been asked to come in for an interview and writing test. Do you walk in and hope for the best? do you let them know that actually, you have a visual impairment, use Jaws [or some other program] and would like to brainstorm ways to complete the writing or skills tests with them? How do you complete the test? Do you bring your laptop and pray that they are open to letting you use a flash drive to download and complete the document? Or, do you pray that they'll let you install Jaws on their computer, and that it magically works without causing major headaches? This is an exceptionally challenging situation for any blind applicant, so I'd love to get your thoughts. Perhaps this will help someone down the road. More and more employers are asking applicants to "show" their abilities in addition to the interview.
